Soapbox - Updates

ARTLESS:

First off, I've gone through and edited some of the pages on the site, though some unfinished portions are still in their working stages. Some of the pages I worked on are Agartha>Religion (upload, basically porting over the wisemen post) Agartha>Agartha and the Planes (minor edits and a short blurb), and SAME Information (reworked some things, uploaded edited sheet.) I'm going to re-tool the site's structure so that important pages can be accessed quickly, like the SAME stuff or your character pages. At the moment, it takes a couple clicks, and there's only one page that links them.

At present, I'm a bit busy with schoolwork, but I'm working on the writeup for the continents and sub-continents, and I'm looking to finish the Religions section soon. I'm still not done with the new character sheets, but what I've got left for it should be relatively quick to do. After that is finishing the Magic page, and then uploading other sections I'm still roughing out.

If you have matters you want to speak about, edit this post or comment.

EDIT: Link to possible games for the weekend: Here.

What the fuck? I just found out that Michael Turner died two months ago >_< Man I'm behind the times...

Fucking hell this sucks :(

I made some changes to my project; I'd like to know what you all think.

I'm really Jonesin' for some kind of tabletop gaming. Sucks I don't have an apartment with a... table. Regardless, if you guys provide me with regular updates as to your weekend schedules, I can make it a point to journey home for a sorely needed rug. (The floors here are filthy with glue and gum and general artist crap.)

Well are we gonna game sometime soon or what?

I've been bogged down with projects, but hopefully my instructors will eventually parse them out so I can manage them without worrying about simultaneous due dates. The absolute latest that would be would be the middle of next month, as thats our Fall break, but I'm sure that I'll be getting some time off sooner than that.

That's all cool man, but we need to hear from the others as well. By the by hows school been going for ya Josh

I generally don't work weekends. I generally work late Friday evenings. That is all I can reasonably guarantee.

Anonymous said...

Oh hey Josh, what's your Steam ID?

Anonymous said...

Useless. They still haven't re-opened outbound ports since last year, so I can't do anything like play games online, use IRC or upload stuff to FTPs. Torrents still work fine, so I don't know what it is they accomplished by shutting everything off.

Anyway, my Steam ID would be Artless01 with the handle [M-A]Artless. I lent the account to a friend so he could try out TF2, so if you see my handle anywhere it's probably him. I sometimes make trips over to his apartment to play, which I know is sad, but I love the game so damn much. When Wrath comes around and they haven't fixed anything, I may just have to kill myself.

School's been going fine enough, I suppose. I should be coming back up in a week or two. I'll let you all know soon exactly when that will be.

Aww bummer :( But yes, WoW will not last with a Josh-less WotLK, so get on dat shit.

On a side note, quick question. I'm going to attempt to upgrade the RAM on my PC which is currently maxed out at 1.5GB. I've read it's the easiest part of a Computer to replace and since I can now successfully identify it in the sea-o-shit that is inside my case.

Any suggestions for an affordable-yet-badass RAM upgrade?

Anonymous said...

Well, generally speaking you want to get the latest iteration (DDR3 last time I checked) so that you aren't hindering yourself if you ever upgrade later. However, there are a couple of factors you might take note of for casual computing.

1. Typically, unless you are working to get every inch out of a machine, it doesn't really matter how much RAM you put in. 2 gigabytes is more than enough for most uses. I have mine set up to use a mere 1 gig, but that's just because I'm not especially concerned about load times.
2. RAM can get bottlenecked if you put something in that is too fast for your Mobo, making it a big waste to pay for something that won't perform at its peak.
3. RAM is dirt cheap.

That said, really anything you put in there will work fine. A lot of times, it boils down to how much rather than the quality of the RAM. To make a really sound recommendation, I'd have to know your mobo's specs, but any old RAM should be good.

Actually, what you have in there should be fine, but if you want your load times to be quicker you can just allocate more virtual memory on your hard drive. It's not the same as RAM, but it is essentially free.

Just go to System Information in the control panel, click on the Advanced tab. Under Performance, click Settings, and click the Advanced tab. The last parameter will be Virtual Memory. Click on Change. Make sure whatever drive you have selected has enough space for your needs. Under the custom heading there will be two inputs for the Paging File size (the part of your hard disk that will act like RAM) initial and maximum. If you want a typical setup, enter around 1526 for the initial and 3072 for the maximum. This will set 1.5 gigs of memory aside on your hard drive to be used as RAM, utilizing up to 3 gigs if needed. Click set after you've entered whatever size you want, and you're done. Again, it's not the same as RAM, in fact there are large differences between the two, but for some applications like web-browsing there won't be much difference.

Huh... I just checked my connections again, and it seems I can get on Steam now more easily than before. (I had to jump through a few hoops before.) I guess they fixed things. Lemme check WoW after this update's done.

Alexander said...

Well there's your problem! Yer kerjigger isn't touching the right motherboard and all your bits are flipped. The thinger is overheating the see-pee-you, which is RAMming all yer floppies off the drive.

Anonymous said...

Nope, nevermind. I seemed to have left all of my measures in place from before. They haven't fixed anything.

I want to play 3.0.2! God dammit. Fuggin' MIAD's retarded sys admin his draconian protocols.

Anonymous said...

Well that's hogwash.

3.0.2 is a ton of fun, it's actually keeping me from the WAR head start, it's so great to ditch the hobo look my Paladin has been sporting for over three and half years. Plus, now that I've been playing around with the Paladin changes, I am totally amped for this patch to hit. Plus Stormwind Harbor is just fucking awesome looking.

That really is a bummer Josh :(

Anonymous said...

FUCK. FUCK. FUCK. Don't tell me any more, you prick! I only have so much medication!

Seriously though, I'm pretty impressed with the patch notes, and what I've seen of this pre-emptive update looks pretty kick-ass. All of the class retooling is making me think Blizzard has someone who knows what they're doing on their dev teams. Though some "fixes" are a bit... odd. Lightning Reflexes, I'm looking at you.

By the way, I've tried to re-tool the front page of the site to be a bit more useful. Could you guys tell me what you think? Is there anything I should link on the home page that isn't?

And you guys can edit your character pages...

Anonymous said...

Uploaded the new character sheet. It's little changed, but things should be neater and there are more spaces on the bottom.

Alexander said...

Josh, quick question. What's the name of that one site you're always showing us where you can watch episodes of any TV show ever?

Help me, you're my only hope.

Anonymous said...

SurfTheChannel.

They've redesigned their site, so you have to use the Channel drop-down menu to get to the categories.

satansgear said...

Well I must sya that the page is decent Josh. Granted I'll go to the blog first before I go to the actual website. It's just easier to go here. By the fucking way I got Spore, and its fucking awesome.

Alexander said...

Thanks, Josh. I managed to miss the House premiere so...

On a related matter: abloo abloo abloo.

Anonymous said...

I figured it was something like that.

By the way, I'll be coming home next weekend. This weekend I'm have to stick around for someone's birthday, or so I'm told.

Anyway, if you guys can manage some time aside, I'll probably get my dad to pick me up on Thursday and I'll have time to spare until Sunday.

"I have"

Goddamn brain and switching sentence structure while I'm typing.

Yaaarrrrrrrr

I'll be free basically all weekend excluding friday. I got to work saturday till like 11 am but after that I am totally free.

Anonymous said...

I'll be back Friday evening, and we should gather on Saturday, sometime around 5 or 6.

Whatever works best for you guys.

satansgear said...

Cool, what game?

Anonymous said...

Meh. We could play something new, entirely of our own imaginations, certainly. I'd like to keep our adventures in Agartha limited to times when we are all available, but if there is a wish to play it, then I will bring my prepared materials.

I don't know how Alex feels about playing sans one player, but I'm confident you'd rather play 4th Ed with everyone around.

Other than that, I'm absolutely on board for anything (other than World of Darkness, but that's a non-issue). We've got the games proposed on the blog, or I can cook up a list of game ideas tomorrow.

Whatever.

Alexander said...

Just so. I did leave off at a juncture that would make it different to write out a character.

I will play (hell, even run) anything that involves dice and maybe swords.

-Dick around in a perhaps higher-level 4e game.
-Dick around in a galaxy far, far away.
-Dick around with some miniatures.

Anonymous said...

Can do some messing around, or are you staunchly in favor of dickings?

satansgear said...

I am game for anything. It's up to you guys on who you wanna run what.

Anonymous said...

I posted a link to some possible games. It's the same list as last time, with two additions.

Alexander said...

So we're looking at Saturday night, 6 in the evening?

Anonymous said...

I'd appreciate that, yeah. I was actually going to ask that a couple of you come perhaps an hour early; I have a project for my figure drawing class I need 2 people to pose for.

And please, remain clothed.

Finally got WoW working; gonna be hangin' out on the Test server when my bandwidth is up.

You wouldn't believe how easy my new method of getting on to it is.

I won't bother you all with the details

Anonymous said...

Shit son, log on to the live realms some time :P

Anonymous said...

Aaaah pk-ffff...

God dammit. I go through all that work to get the Test Realm patch at home, and now I can't even download the incremental patches.

Screw this, I'mma see if I get my own DSL connection in my room. I am so tired of the slow speeds, and this admin's bullshit.
